"SCROOGE MAKES UP!" A one-act Christmas comedy with an extremely flexible cast of 15! (5M, 6F plus 4 that can be either. Extras as carolers, if desired. Can also be done with an all-female cast) SET: Area staging (a bare stage with props!) RUNNING TIME: About 45 minutes One stormy Christmas Eve, a young cashier, named Ebenezer Scrooge, is rounding up grocery carts in a supermarket parking lot, when, suddenly, a busload of senior citizens, out shopping for their Christmas party, hits him! Young Ebenezer is hospitalized, missing Christmas, and spending an entire year in a body cast! Fast forward to the present: a now bitter Scrooge (who hates Christmas and shopping carts) is president of "Scrooge and Marley Cosmetics," a company whose toxic, anti-aging cream poisoned his partner, "Makeup Marley," and disfigured Bobbie Cratchit's daughter, "Tiny Kim", so severely that she is forced to wear a paper bag over her head. Oh well...at least profits are up! This Christmas Eve, however, an especially miserable Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his deceased partner. Carrying a long, chain, Makeup Marley tells Scrooge that "Mallmart", and the other superstores have cut a deal with the "Big Guy Upstairs," giving him a 75% discount, in exchange for free ghostly labor. Marley and some other shady characters are now doomed in the afterlife, to gather and chain together all the loose shopping carts from parking lots all over the world! And now, an angel has been seen embroidering Scrooge's name on a "Coshko" smock! Can Scrooge change his ways before he is doomed to the same horrific fate? Thus sets the stage for a host of loony ghosts, and daffy characters, all of whom arrive, determined to change Scrooge's outlook on life before it is too late! (3M, 12F plus 5 that can be either...or 8M, 12F...Extra carolers can be added.) SET: One interior set (Can also be performed on a bare stage with props!) Cobbler Freidrich Schuhmaker, and his wife, Elsa, are a poor childless couple, who live in a small cottage in a little Bavarian village. It is the week before Christmas, and, as customers bring in their last-minute requests for shoes, "Papa 'Shoe'" as Freidrich is called by four young orphans, is overwhelmed. To make matters worse, Elsa has sewn four elf dolls, as gifts for the orphans, with materials that Freidrich had put aside to finish his shoes. With only one piece of leather left in the entire shop, and the tanners out of materials until well after Christmas, the couple frets over how they will finish the shoes, and pay their taxes. "Jack 'n the Blarney Stone!" A Full-length Play in Two Acts with Traditional Irish Music! GREAT FOR ST. PATTY'S DAY...OR AS AN ALTERNATIVE FOR HALLOWEEN! (One tale actually takes place on All Hallow's Eve) Can be performed by a mixed cast of adults and children, all-adult, or all-youth casts. CAST SIZE: Flexible casting. 13 people (4 M, 9 F), with doubling, or (9 M, and 23 F) without, plus extras. RUNNING TIME: Two hours SET: One outdoor set MUSIC: An accompaniement CD is available for this show With his father lost at sea, a drought upon the local Irish farmland, and a sister and invalid mother to support, young Jack O'Donnell, inspired by his mother's enchanting tales, leaves home to seek out the ever-elusive leprechaun and his crock o'gold. But when Jack meets up with Paddy McKeen and his caravan of traveling theater gypsies, they caution Jack about meddlin' with the "wee folk" by pulling costumes from a trunk, and performing two of their favorite Irish folktales. In the first tale, poor, good-hearted Percy Finnegan is tricked by a leprechaun into trading his last cow for a magic bottle. Amazingly, the bottle brings Percy and his family great wealth, until one day, it stops working, and Percy loses everything. Luckily, Percy gets a second bottle from the leprechaun, yet while this bottle doesn't exactly bring riches, it does bring a comical form of enlightenment in that typical Irish way! In the second tale, poor Jamie Freel sneaks into an ancient castle on All Hallow's Eve, to spy on the faeries, and ends up traveling with them to exchange a beautiful young girl for a changeling. However, when Jamie becomes smitten with the girl, he steals her for himself, causing the fairies to place a curse on the young woman, and leaving poor Jamie to support a blind and deaf mute. This traditional tale takes on a hilarious spin! At the end of their reenactment, the acting troupe discovers, much to their dismay, that Jack is even more adamant to resume his quest, but, in doing so, the lad is forced to match wits with both fantasy and horror creatures directly from the annals of Irish folklore. In the end, friendship, and family prove to be Jack's real fortune, along with a wee bit of magic! With a wonderful array of traditional Irish folksongs, and an accompaniment CD, "Jack and the Blarney Stone" weaves the magic and fears of Celtic folklore into a lively show that will leave your audiences "charmed"! "BEAUTY DUTY!" A fairytale comedy for an all-female cast in one act! RUNNING TIME: Approximately 45 minutes. CAST: 13 females SET: One interior business office set Ambitious, hard-working, Amanda Styles, a fashionable, young job recruiter for "The Flunkee Employment Agency", is determined to help one of her biggest clients, Fields Department Store, fill a management position at their busy cosmetics counter. However, when Amanda places a classified ad in the local newspaper, she inadvertently opens the door to a host of "unreal" beauties - all characters from storybooks - who feel that their past experiences have given them exactly the right criteria for the job. While Amanda struggles through a seemingly endless series of bizarre interviews, with the help of her efficient secretary, Thelma, and her kooky associate, Betty Hawkins, she begins to wonder if, maybe, there isn't a better candidate for the job than any of the loony applicants currently sitting in her office.
